What is an arthritis test?
One of the most common types of arthritis is Rheumatoid Arthritis. This condition occurs when your immune system attacks your own cells and tissues, mistaking them as 'foreign'. Our arthritis test will provide a diagnosis for rheumatoid arthritis, a long-term condition that can cause pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. This test will also check your levels of Uric Acid which is the main cause of Gout which also causes inflamation and joint pain.
Why consider an arthritis test?
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, as well as other discomforts in your hands, feet, or joints, then you should consider taking this test.
How is arthritis tested?
You will be asked to provide a blood sample duringyour visit to our clinic. After we have collected your sample, it will be sent to our fully accredited Spanish laboratory for fast and accurate analysis. Within just two working days of your samples arrival at our laboratory, your results will be ready.
What tests will you run on my sample?
Our rheumatoid arthritis test assesses the following:
- Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The ESR measures the rate at which blood cells settle in a tube. Faster rates can be indicative of inflammatory problems
- Rheumatoid factor (RF). An autoantibody found in the blood of those who have rheumatoid arthritis
- Full blood count (FBC). This checks the levels of all your different blood cells identifying any abnormalities
- Uric acid. This chemical is checked to see if you are prone to gout which can also cause joint pain
- Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP). This is an antibody produced by the immune system that works against your body's normal antibodies. People who test positive for anti-CCP are very likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis, however not everybody with rheumatoid arthritis has this antibody
- C-reactive protein (CRP). This is another inflammation marker
